Test Before You Stack: Why Bloodwork Comes Before Supplements

Tired all the time? Struggling to recover? Weight not budging? It is tempting to grab a new supplement and hope it helps. Sometimes that works. But when you are guessing at the cause, you are also guessing at the fix. A simple blood panel can tell you where to focus before you spend money on a new stack.

What a Hormone Panel Measures

A hormone panel is a group of blood tests taken at the same time. Depending on the kit, it may include:

  • Testosterone, total and free
  • Estradiol
  • SHBG, which affects how much hormone your body can use
  • Thyroid markers such as TSH
  • Metabolic markers such as A1c, glucose and cholesterol

Looking at these together gives a clearer picture than any single number.

Why It Matters for Supplement Shoppers

Low energy can come from sleep, stress, thyroid issues, blood sugar or hormones. Each points to a different solution. Knowing your numbers helps you and a provider rule things in or out, and it gives you a baseline so you can see what actually changes over time.

One tip we share often: biotin can throw off some lab results. It shows up in many hair, skin and nail formulas and multivitamins. Tell your provider about every supplement you take, and follow any instructions they give about pausing them before your test.

How At-Home Testing Works

Our sister practice, CommonwealthMD, offers Rythm Health at-home lab kits:

  • Order your kit and it ships to your door.
  • Collect your sample at home, ideally in the morning.
  • Mail it back in the included packaging.
  • Review your results with a licensed provider.

To learn which markers matter most and how to read your results, see At-Home Blood Labs: What a Hormone Panel Tells You on the CommonwealthMD blog.
